2018 was an unusually wet and cool year, and the 2018 Las Rocas, despite its almost 15% alcohol, feels quite fresh and balanced. The Garnacha grapes come from dry-farmed vines averaging 30 years of age and were destemmed but uncrushed and put to ferment in concrete vats. Only 20% of the volume matured for 10 months in oak barrels of different sizes and ages, while the rest was kept in concrete. This is a fruit-driven, juicy and easy to drink Garnacha with a spicy touch and nicely integrated undertones from the élevage in oak. Notes of beeswax and honey develop with time in the glass. It has a soft texture, with fine tannins and integrated acidity coming through as balanced and approachable. This is amazing value for the money and a good introduction to the region and grape in an easy-to-understand style. 200,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in December 2019.
